Walmart Foundation announces $25000 grant for Flagstaff Shelter Services

On Feb. 6, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation announced the donation of $170,000 to six charitable organizations across Arizona. The grants recognize and support local non-profit groups working to meet the needs of the underserved and positively impact Arizona communities.

Among the recipients is Flagstaff Shelter Services, a local non-profit that provides emergency shelter, food, clothing, counseling and other basic, vital resources to Northern Arizonans experiencing homelessness. Flagstaff Shelter Services has received $25,000 from the Walmart Foundation to support shelter operations, bolster crisis response efforts and advance the greater goal of the organization – helping vulnerable individuals get on a path to permanent housing and self-sufficiency.

Flagstaff Shelter Services has served as a vital community resource since 2006. It serves approximately 155 people with shelter, food and related services every day, and provides 43,000 beds each year for individuals experiencing a crisis in homelessness.

“Last year, nearly 700 individuals in Coconino County reported experiencing homelessness. As the largest emergency shelter in Northern Arizona, we have a vital role to play in serving and supporting our community’s most vulnerable,” said Ross Altenbaugh, Executive Director of Flagstaff Shelter Services. “This grant will bolster our efforts to assist individuals in finding permanent housing and self-sufficiency in our community. We are grateful for the support and partnership of Walmart and the Walmart Foundation in this crucial cause.”
