Many things are easily associated with Pennsylvania, from food traditions to championship teams and everything in between.
It makes sense when someone identifies with the state and refers to the Pennsylvania Dutch, scrapple, whoopie pies, cheesesteaks, pierogies, the Terrible Towel or knows how to finish the chant, "We are..."
But plastic hangers?
New, end-of-the-year data from Walmart shows plastic hangers were among the top items purchased by Pennsylvania customers on Walmart.com last year.
To figure that out, Walmart scoured its online shopping data to find the top 25 items purchased in each state and then compiled a U.S. map using the most interesting buys.
Some highlights:
- North Carolina can't get enough mayonnaise.
- Ohio bought a lot of grape-flavored drink mix.
- Washington needed vanilla frosting.
- Louisiana wanted root beer extract.
- California chose protein powder.
- Alabama picked crayons.
- In New York, it was Cheerios.
- Michigan went for lavender-scented cleaning products.
- Texas chose TV wall mounts.
And, as Walmart said in its data release, "Pennsylvanians are hot on plastic hangers."
Does this mean Pennsylvanians are really practical or really boring?
