Update: Teen stabbed at Shawnee's Walmart; suspect jailed

Several emergency vehicles responded to Shawnee's Walmart late Friday night for a reported stabbing, where a teenager was stabbed and a suspect was taken into police custody.

Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center records show Roy Dean Harjo, 57, was jailed Saturday on a complaint of assault and battery with a deadly weapon. Formal charges have not been filed.

Shawnee police and detectives investigated the scene overnight, where crime scene tape surrounded an area east of the grocery shopping entrance at 196 E. Shawnee Mall Drive.

Initial arrest affidavits prepared by detectives for the case indicate the suspect, who was allegedly intoxicated, showed up at Walmart to pick up his wife, where there was a disturbance and the woman was allegedly hit. The victim and some friends reportedly tried to intervene on her behalf and it was reported the suspect allegedly produced a knife and threatened a store manager, with the situation reportedly resulting in the victim being stabbed at the scene.

The teen was transported to an Oklahoma City hospital for treatment.

The suspect is expected to go before a judge Monday for an initial court appearance.
