Emmet County EMS employees will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10 at the Walmart store in Petoskey as part of their annual food drive collection.
The goal is to help fill an ambulance with food to donate to The Manna Food Project.
Emmet EMS Director Larry Hansen said that volunteers from the county ambulance department will be out collecting non-perishible food items no matter the weather or conditions.
“We see the need out there on every run we go on. We know that people are hurting, so we want to help,” Hansen said.
Last year the ambulance department collected close to 700 pounds of food, including dried goods and non-perishible food items.
Hansen said when the EMS department turns this year’s food donations over to Manna, the food bank will help to distribute them among a number of different food pantries in Northern Michigan.
