Cartersville man chooses wrong time to shoplift from Walmart

Shop With a Hero, an event that provides Christmas gifts to hundreds of local children, took place Saturday.

Originally called Shop with a Cop, first responders and police officers showed up in abundance to Walmart for a good cause that day.

Allegedly, one short-sighted shoplifter decided that would be a good time to steal from Walmart.

Police arrested Reginald Davis, 26, of Hannon Way, Cartersville, and charged him with theft by shoplifting and willful obstruction of law enforcement after he attempted to run from police while the Shop With a Hero event was taking place.

According to the report, Bartow County Sheriff’s deputies were volunteering at around 11 a.m. when they were informed by shoppers and volunteers that Davis took a Stanley 145-piece mechanics tool set.

The tool set is valued at around $55.

One deputy saw Davis hide behind pallets of mulch. Davis was told to stop, and did for a bit, but then attempted to run away during the subsequent search for the stolen items.

While running away, he tripped and was caught. He was arrested shortly after once officers found the tool set between the pallets Davis tried to hide behind.

Walmart had video surveillance of Davis leaving with the tool set without paying.
