STERLING, Ill (KWQC)— Over the last 98 years, Wahl Clipper Corporation has brought more than 1000 jobs to Sterling, Illinois.
CEO and President of Wahl Clipper Greg Wahl said getting honored by Walmart is amazing.
“Walmart came here to honor Wahl for Made in America in the state of Illinois. We had a lot of fun talking about what we do and talking about how we work with Walmart and how much we value their business,” said Wahl.
However, Wahl said caring about his employees makes it one of the company’s top priorities.
“We want all of our employees to come to work and work hard and work fast but be energized and we want them to take more control of what they do and own their processes,” said Wahl.
Employees said Wahl Clipper is more than a cooperation but it is a family. Michael Knapp has been a Wahl employee for since 1995. He said the company has supported him and his family through his roughest moments after losing his daughter Jade 6 years ago.
“They really helped us get through a difficult time... Friday the day of the funeral came and I dreaded but on the way to the cemetery at Oak Knoll that passes right by Wahl; as we were coming up the road there were hundreds of people standing in front of Wahl Clipper releasing balloons and waving signs. At that very moment I realized Wahl wasn't just my place of employment it was a family to me,” said Knapp.
Knapp said he plans to stick around even though he is not that old, he plans to retire from Wahl Clipper.
Wahl said plans are in the works for the company to expand the business even more in the next couple of years.
