Nationwide vegetable recall hits Walmart, Trader Joe's, Target

A nationwide veggie recall has hit Walmart, Trader Joe's and Target, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

The FDA announced Thursday that Mann Packing of Salina, California, has recalled several vegetable products due to possible listeria contamination. The company issued the voluntary recall after one of their sampling products tested positive for listeria.

The recalled products were distributed throughout the U.S. and Canada to Walmart, Trader Joe's and Archer Farms, a brand sold at Target. They all have "best if used by" dates of Oct. 11 to Oct. 20 on the front side of the packaging.

The affected products include:

  • Archer Farms (Target): 12-oz. bags of broccoli slaw, broccoli cauliflower florets, broccoli medley and brussels sprouts, along with 9-oz. bags of shaved brussels sprouts, and 10-oz. bags of cauliflower florets.
  • Trader Joe's: 10-ounce bags of kohlrabi salad blend are being recalled.
  • Walmart: 12-oz. bags of broccoli cauliflower florets, broccoli florets and stir fry medley are being recalled, along with 32-oz. bags of broccoli florets, 16-oz. bags of broccoli slaw, 10-ounce bags of cauliflower florets and super blend, 16-oz. bags of cauliflower and 2-lb. bags of vegetable medley.

See the full list, including UPC codes for all products, at fda.gov.

Consumers who have purchased any recalled products are urged not to consume them, throw them out or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and people with weakened immune systems. Healthy people can suffer fevers and diarrhea. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriages and stillbirths.

According to the CDC, symptoms of listeria infection include fever, diarrhea, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, muscle aches and convulsions, and symptoms typically appear within one to four weeks after exposure.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the Mann Packing recall, according to the FDA.
