Hurricane Nate: Walmart closing stores along Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana Gulf Coast

Walmart stores along the Gulf Coast are closing ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Nate.

Now a Category 2 storm, Nate is forecast to make landfall on the northern Gulf Coast as soon as tonight, the National Hurricane Center said. Hurricane warnings are in place along the coast from Alabama to Louisiana with tropical storm warnings extending further inland.

The storm has forced the cancellation of numerous events and closures of businesses, churches and schools even as residents are told to complete hurricane preparations as soon as possible.

For those planning on purchasing supplies at Walmart, time is running out. Walmart stores along the Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama Gulf Coast are open but will close later today. Stores in New Orleans will close at 4 p.m.; Mississippi Gulf Coast Walmart locations will close at 5 p.m. ; and stores on the Alabama Gulf Coast will close no later at 6 p.m. local time.

Stores will reopen Sunday if conditions allow, Walmart said. Customers are check their local store's Facebook page to verify current status and hours of operation.

Target has not announced any store closures at this time.
