ANN ARBOR, MI - Students, labor activists, elected officials and others gathered Thursday, Sept. 14, on the University of Michigan Diag to show opposition to the "Trump-Walmart agenda."
Giving away free pizza, as well as hats and T-shirts with the message "Trump & Walmart, Making America Worse!" they encouraged students and others to fight back against "Trump's vision of America and Walmart's mega-corporate business model."
The rally, which drew a small crowd, is one of many similar rallies being held on college campuses across the country as part of the Making Change at Walmart campaign run by the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union.
Washtenaw County Commissioner Michelle Deatrick, who is running for state Senate, spoke, along with Ian Robinson of the Huron Valley Area Labor Federation, Al Vanderklipp of Progressives at UM, Phil Bianco of the Huron Valley Democratic Socialists of America, and Anahi Tapia of the Making Change at Walmart campaign and UFCW.
